House rules for Social Media

We use our social media channels to help keep people informed about the work being done by East Midlands Combined County Authority – it also provides a platform for people to share their views and ask questions.

Our rules are designed to help ensure our social media are a safe, friendly and welcoming space so that everyone can get the most out of them.

The East Midlands Combined County Authority pages are run by officers who will try and answer as quickly as possible or signpost you to further information, but it may not be possible to reply to every comment or question posted on social media.

If your query is serious, involves personal details, or requires a formal response, please refer to the contact section of our website.

We reserve the right to remove posts and comments when our house rules aren’t observed, and we may block users who persistently break our house rules. Please familiarise yourself with the guidance below.

It’s public – be nice

When posting comments online it can be easy to forget that you are speaking to other people and that they are visible for others to see. If you wouldn’t say it in person in a public place, you should think twice about saying it online.

Unacceptable content

We will remove comments which contain:

  • Swearing or profanity – we want to make sure our channels are for everyone so do not use rude or foul language.
  • Abusive, offensive or discriminatory language – we will not tolerate comments which are rude, provocative or contain sexist, racist, xenophobic or homophobic remarks; posts or messages that contain threats of violence, whether directly or indirectly targeted at individuals, groups or organisations, will be reported to the police.
  • Misinformation – we will remove comments which we believe contain factually incorrect statements, contradict official guidance or encourage members of the public to break the law. We welcome healthy debate and discussion, but misinformation is not helpful to anyone.
  • Potentially libellous language – we will remove comments that contain false or unfounded statements about any individual.
  • Repetitive comments – we will remove repeated comments on the same post.
